About mE
I have been a Hatter's supporter since the mid 60’s and have enjoyed a fabulous ride supporting what I term as a real football club. That ride at times has been turbulent with many ups and downs but that’s life being a Hatter. I manage to get to most of the 46 league games in a season and because of where I live, nowhere near Luton, clock up about 12,000 miles a year travelling. Strangely, I never ask myself why I do it, I just do it. It does not dent my finances as these are looked after by my 2nd career as a full-time private investor; I have a sister site on the whittling theme; Stockwhittler which is dedicated to that side of things.
In terms of reading about our passion of following the Hatters, things have changed incredibly during my lifetime. The way to read up on away day match reports back in the 60’s, way pre-internet years, was to get hold of a copy of the Green Un as early as you could on a Saturday evening. I used to purchase my copy from a van that used to come around the housing estate at the top of Dallow Road at about 6:30 in the evening beeping his horn. The match report was fairly detailed for the first half but time and printing demands meant that the second half was little more that the final score of the game.
Well in terms of communicating up to date information, the internet has changed our lives dramatically. We can all join in on fans sites, watch video clips of games, and use social media such as Twitter to get up to the minute information.
Football chat forums can be great fun and I joined the old BBC 606 site some years back before it was shelved due to the financial restrictions at the BBC. That site then became 262 which was to my mind a good site that was unfortunately totally spoilt by a handful of attention seeking individuals with little interest in the well being of the site; such is life, we all encounter such folk! Never mind, during my time on 262 I made some truly excellent friends that I am sure will remain friends for life. Sadly that site closed in November 2017 and as I replacement I opened the LTFC Fool which I am happy to say is really going great guns and has ported over the great majority of 262 posters and attracted many more new folk signing up to the site. The Outlaws site is what it is; a mix of some truly excellent and knowledgeable posters and a scattering of sad knob heads who for whatever reason get gratification from “having a go”. However, that will not put me off and I quite like the site.
I really love attending games to watch the Hatters but really the day is much more than just simply the game itself; it’s about the total day out. Travelling, meeting friends for a pre-match beer or two and seeing hopefully some attractive Towns & Cities.
By it’s very nature, a blog is a bit of a monologue but please feel free to comment and should you do so I will authorise such comments; you don’t have to agree with my view after all, debate is about differing views.
