Nottingham Pubs: What a Great Place For a Beer
Nottingham to watch the hatters is always a great day out when you consider what the city has to offer in terms of good drinking establishments many of which are so totally unusual. To list all of the great pubs would be far too much of a task for this simple site so I have included just a handful; mostly ones I have been to and the odd one that I would like to add to the visited list.
Firstly a must for a first-time visitor to Nottingham; Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem. A pub built into the rock of Nottingham castle; lots of little side rooms, a real warren.
If you were to start your day there, then a convenient intermediate watering hole can be found at the Canal House. Again a really unusual pub in that it has an open canal inside the building complete with a narrow boat; the beer and the food are pretty good as well.
Leaving the Canal House and treading in the general direction of the ground, you can visit the Vat & Fiddle, the Brewery Tap for Castle Rock Brewery. Nice lightly flavoured ales that travel the full ten yards from the attached brewery.
A bar that I have yet to visit but really looks to be worth the effort is The Barrel Drop at 7 Hurts Yard Nottingham; I will try to get a quick ½ in there when we play Notts County at the end of October.
I have also added the Nottingham CAMRA Pub Crawl which is worth a read and includes a link to a handy pub map of Nottingham; what more could you want?
