The Beer Hunter
When going to football games, I do enjoy a couple of beers but having said that, I am probably in the “lightweight league” compared to many others who were born with the hollow legs. Therefore in beer terms, I am more of a beer hunter for the unusual pint and certainly a quality pint of beer.
Although I do like a good real ale, I also like quality lagers from around the globe and it’s hard to name a country that does not turn it’s hand to making a quality brew or two that will stand out from the mundane.
Now, as beer and football are traditional bed mates, going to away games provides a fine excuse for a spot of beer hunting should such an excuse be needed hence these pages.

Why the Beer Hunter?
Back in the 90’s, I was lucky enough to latch onto a TV documentary series called the Beer Hunter. The series was hosted by Michael Jackson a charming guy from Yorkshire who had a real passion for beer in all its various forms. Back in those days of VHS tapes, it was a must to record and I managed to get the whole series of excellent episodes as Michael travelled the globe hunting the best in beer and generally spreading the word. Unfortunately, those tapes like Michael himself, are no longer with us: Michael died in 2007 a great loss to the wonderful world of beer.
When I started thinking about including a great pubs section, I had a think of what to call the section; real ale pubs, great pubs etc but finally settled for The Beer Hunter as a simple tribute to a very great man.
The following video gives both a flavour of Michael Jackson and his passion for beer: the video was shot a couple of years before his death. I should say that Michael had been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for many years but bravely battled on working and doing interviews.
